2/18/25 Update 7:30am
Crews are working to restore power to the remaining 20 members who are without power. There are still a few broken poles that need to be replaced, but we expect full restoration before the evening hours today. We sincerely appreciate our members for hanging in there with us and our crews for working so hard to get lights back on.
2/17/25 Update 2:30pm
Outage numbers have dropped to 52 impacting 330 members. Crews have identified 14 broken poles and have been working to replace as many possible. However, some will take longer to complete because they require a track machine to access. Flooded roads have also caused crews to have to take longer routes to outage locations and saturated grounds are continuing to provide a challenge. We will have the majority of outages restored by the end of the night. However, some will continue into tomorrow.

Mother nature isn't quite done yet as we are expecting snow to impact our territory beginning Wednesday morning. We are asking our members to prepare now for this next round of weather. Our crews will once again be ready to answer the call to restore power should outages occur.

Crews are making progress and have restored over 1,800 members since this morning! We still have 88 outage locations affecting just over 1,000 members. Many of these locations involve replacing broken poles and downed wire. These type of repairs take approximately 4 hours or more, depending on the type of equipment needed.
We wanted to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude for your kind words of support and encouragement. Our crews may be tired, but they are dedicated to getting the lights back on as soon as possible for our members.
2/17/25 Update 7:00am
As of 7am, CVEC currently has 127 device or individual outages on the system affecting just over 2,800 members. The power supply outages were restored last night, and CVEC crews were able to back feed some locations to get more members back on. We have damage assessment crews scouting outage locations and clearing trees and our line crews are working to repair broken poles and areas with downed lines.
We have a dedicated team of employees working to answer your calls, assess damage, provide updates, and get the power restored as quickly and safely as possible. While the goal is to try and get power restored today, some repair and restoration work could extend into tomorrow. Once we have a better idea of the actual extent of the damage, we will provide another update.
We want our crews and our members to all go home safely at the end of the day. The ground is saturated and streams and rivers are flooded. Please stay away from any downed power lines and areas that may be unsafe due to rising water or fallen debris. If you see a downed line, call CVEC and your local authorities.

2/17/25 Update 12:30am
What a difference nine hours can make! The outages started blowing in around 3pm and we hit a peak of 20,000 members out around 5:30 this evening. As of midnight, 2,587 members are without power.
Thankfully, power to many of our transmission lines was restored and our crews are burning the midnight oil making as many repairs as possible tonight. Here are a few photos from the field tonight.
Daybreak will bring many discoveries of damaged poles and lines. Our crews will get an early start seeking out the hardest hit areas and making sure the path for restoration is clear. Replacing broken poles like the one pictured here can take four hours or more, depending on the equipment needed to complete the job. We will continue to update you on our findings tomorrow.

CVEC is committed to restoring every single member as quickly and safely as possible. Thank you for hanging tough with us and for your patience as we repair the mess the wind and downed trees made this afternoon. 2/16/25 Update 7:30pm
At this time, just over 7,873 CVEC members are still without power. We are still awaiting transmission lines to be repaired in many areas but our crews are working diligently to make repairs in other areas. With over 230 outage locations, members should prepare to be without power overnight and well into Monday evening. We know there is severe damage to the system, but we won't know the full extent until daylight when our teams can scout and clear the trees and destruction to make way for power restoration.
As the wind gusts continue, members should prepare for additional outages.
✨Keep devices charged and flashlights nearby.
✨Stay warm with extra layers and blankets. If you are on a well, fill empty jugs with water.
✨Members should also monitor local news for weather updates and travel problems as many roads will likely be blocked by flooding, fallen trees, or downed power lines.
✨Remember to stay at least 30 feet away from downed lines and objects in contact with downed lines.

Update: all of our systems for reporting outages are back up and running. We apologize for the frustration it caused not being able to report your outage. Be assured we see you and we are all hands on deck to get the power back on ASAP!!
CVEC is experiencing widespread outages affecting approximately15,000 members at this time. We have lost connection to a major transmission line that supplies power to four CVEC substations along the I-64 corridor.
Due to the overwhelming response to the outages, our systems can't keep up! We are working with our vendors to be sure we take all of your outage reports as quickly as we can. Your best bet to report an outage is via our website: https://www.mycvec.com/outages-safety/report-an-outage/
Crews have been dispatched and it is all hands on deck here at CVEC to get power restored as quickly as possible. The wind isn't letting up and we expect there will be additional outages as the night presses on. Prepare now and be safe!

Our systems are back up and running so members can report their outages. We are experiencing widespread outages at this time impacting over 15,000 members at this time. We are assessing the damage and working towards restoration as quickly as possible.

We are aware of an issue with our outage management system and our team is troubleshooting it now. Be right back with an update!
Hold on to your hats CVEC! The wind is gusting across our region and the outages are starting to blow in. Strong winds can easily topple trees that are unstable in the soggy ground. The high wind warning is in effect until Monday afternoon and we urge members to be prepared for outages through the night.
Currently, 381 members are without power. Most outages are in Albemarle and Nelson counties. CVEC crews have been dispatched to make repairs and restore power. They will work as long as it is safe to climb or be in a bucket. As always, their safety is our top priority.
Be safe and aware of your surroundings at all times. We will most likely have downed lines, so please be on the lookout 👀 and stay far from the lines and anything that is contacting the lines. Also watch for fallen trees and flying debris.
