Cooling Assistance: June 15 - August 15
The Virginia Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) assists income-qualified households in meeting their immediate home energy needs. Cooling Assistance is one component of the LIHEAP program.
Eligibility Requirements
- The household applying must be responsible for cooling costs.
- The household must include one vulnerable individual age 60 or older, an individual living with a disability, or a child under age 6.
- Household gross monthly income may not exceed 150 percent of the federal poverty level.
Assistance Available
- Air conditioning unit (window) - purchase and install.
- Air conditioning (central) - repair air conditioning unit or heat pump.
- Electric bill - operate cooling equipment.
- Security deposit - primary electric expense

- Apply through CommonHelp, Virginia’s online website, by visiting the CommonHelp website or scanning this QR code.
- Call (855) 634-4370 Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Submit an application to your local Department of Social Services in person, by mail, or fax.
Deadline to Apply
- Applications are accepted June 15 through August 15.
