Arrington, VA – Central Virginia Electric Cooperative (CVEC) is proud to announce that applications are open for the 2025 Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC) Education Scholarships. These scholarships, designed to support local students in achieving their higher education goals, are open to high school or homeschool seniors graduating in spring 2025 who reside in households served by CVEC.
Since 2001, the VMDAEC Education Scholarship Foundation has awarded over 1,000 scholarships totaling more than $1 million. For the 2025 application cycle, scholarships in the amount of $1,500 — with some awards reaching $3,000 — will be available to students pursuing studies at two- or four-year colleges or trade schools. The scholarships are named in honor of Worth M. Hudson and Roberta I. Harlowe. Hudson was the Foundation’s first chairman and former chairman of the board of directors of Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative in Chase City, Virginia. Roberta Harlowe, former chairman of the Foundation, will retire this year from the CVEC board of directors after an impressive 41-year tenure. The number of scholarships awarded each year is based on the funds available.

Recipient Notification: By June 1, 2025
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a high school or home-schooled senior graduating in spring 2025.
- Must have a primary residence served by CVEC.
- Must be entering the first semester at a post-secondary or technical/trade school in fall 2025.
Scholarships are awarded by the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives’ (VMDAEC) Education Scholarship Foundation. The Foundation’s board of directors will select recipients based on these weighted criteria: financial need at 40 percent, academic achievement at 40 percent and personal statement at 20 percent. An applicant must be entering his or her first semester at a post-secondary or technical/trade school in the fall of 2025. Scholarship funds, which will be sent directly to the educational institution, must be used toward tuition, student fees, room and board, or textbooks.
