Central Virginia Electric Cooperative recognizes its responsibility to adhere to statutory provisions outlined in the Virginia Code and Chapter 330 of Title 20 of the Virginia Administrative Code concerning the discontinuance of service for delinquent residential accounts. CVEC’s new Delinquent Residential Account Disconnection Policy was established to ensure compliance with §§ 44-146.29:4, 56-245.1:3, 56-245.1:4, and § 56-247.1 of the Virginia Code and is effective July 1, 2024.
You can view CVEC’s Delinquent Residential Account Disconnection Policy (PDF) in its entirety. For your convenience, we have noted some key takeaways below. The policy:
- Defines criteria to disconnect a residential, traditional account for non-payment
- Provides guidance and standardization across statewide cooperatives for completing disconnects for non-payment, including declaration of emergency by the Governor for communicable disease and extreme weather
- Standardizes communication of this notice and any notice of account delinquency
- Notice must be delivered by 2 methods
- Notice must be in English and Spanish
- Provides information regarding Member Assistance Programs and Serious Medical Condition Certification
With this mandated policy update, CVEC is aligning its net terms with the Terms & Conditions. Beginning with the July statement, payment will be Due upon Receipt. A payment is considered late if not paid by the 20th day following the bill date, which is like our current billing practice. With this change, you will simply no longer see a due date published on your bill and need to ensure your payment is received before the 20th day following your bill date to avoid a late penalty.
If you utilize the Autopay or Auto Draft on Due Date option, CVEC has taken the steps to update your autopay selection. As the change to our net terms will impact the timing of your payment being pulled from your financial institution, CVEC has updated your Autopay or Auto Draft to pull closer to the 20th day following your bill date. This Autopay or Auto Draft date will continue to publish on your monthly statement. We fully understand how the net terms change could impact your monthly budget; therefore, we have taken this step to minimize impact for upcoming bill cycles. You can always update your payment profile to pull on the due date moving forward. Get instructions on how to complete a payment profile update.
