The end of September brought devastation from Hurricane Helene to many of our sister cooperatives to our south. Central Virginia Electric Cooperative (CVEC) was fortunate to avoid the brunt of the storm that dropped significant rainfall, destroyed roads, and washed away entire towns.
CVEC linemen Travis Massie, Ethan Yancey, Graham Hughes, Jonathan Elliott, Jimmy Wilmoth, and Dustin Foley assisted BARC Electric with restoration efforts before traveling to Blue Ridge Energy just outside of Boone, NC. Blue Ridge sustained significant damage with roughly 75% of their system impacted – that’s approximately 61,000 members out.
We are excited to share an update that after 10 days of hard work, Blue Ridge reported that only approximately 4,330 members remain without power! Great progress is being made as many crews continue to work.
Join us in sending support and accolades to our CVEC Mutual Aid Team. Thank you for answering the call and helping our sister cooperative in need!
