Central Virginia Electric Cooperative (CVEC) is investing in the future of Appomattox County by replacing the current Appomattox substation and relocating it to the Appomattox Business Park. The project will enhance reliability for current members while providing the capacity needed to support growth in the area for decades to come.

The existing Appomattox Substation, located next to Walmart, currently serves 1,948 meters, including 1,925 in Appomattox County and 23 in Buckingham County. As the area continues to grow, the station is approaching its capacity limits, and the current site does not provide sufficient space for future expansion.

The new substation will serve all members currently connected to the existing facility while providing significant reliability improvements. To support the project, CVEC will construct approximately one mile of new 115 kV transmission line to connect the substation directly to the transmission system.

CVEC has already secured the necessary right-of-way for the transmission line. The new line will utilize single self-supporting monopole structures designed to minimize the footprint while maintaining system reliability.

Located on 10 acres purchased by the cooperative in the Appomattox Business Park, the new substation is expected to provide enough capacity to accommodate growth in the county for the next 30 years.

The project is intended to serve existing CVEC members and improve service reliability. The new substation will not serve the proposed data center campus.
