The Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC) hosted its 4th annual Girl Power Camp at the Association’s state-of-the-art training center in Palmyra, Virginia on October 30. Nearly 80 young women attended the event, which was full of excitement and hands-on learning opportunities. The students, outfitted in pink safety gear, came ready to learn, engage, and explore what a future in the energy sector could look like for them.
These remarkable young ladies embraced the challenges of the day— even strapping on gaff hooks and belts to climb utility poles! They learned essential safety techniques as they operated bucket trucks, shotguns sticks, drills, and drones. Beyond that, they took part in valuable career-building sessions, learning resume tips, interview strategies, and discovering the many paths that lead to success in our industry. The enthusiasm from each student was contagious as they embraced each challenge with determination and confidence while learning about the various career options in the utility industry.
It was a day of empowerment, growth, and connection and CVEC was proud to join cooperative representatives from Virginia and Delaware to help make this event a success. At our core, we believe in transforming lives, and this camp exemplified that mission by inspiring the next generation of women leaders in our industry. “Seeing their growth, excitement, and enthusiasm throughout the day was inspiring for all of us.
