As we celebrate the holiday weekend, extremely hot temperatures are expected to keep electricity demand high across our region. We encourage members to reduce or shift energy use between 4PM and 7PM today through Sunday to help lower costs, reduce strain on the electric grid, and maintain reliable service.
Reducing your energy use during these peak hours not only helps the Cooperative manage power costs, but can also help lower your individual electricity consumption and your monthly bill.
Simple Energy-Saving Tips for the Fourth of July
- Grill outdoors instead of using the oven to keep heat out of your home and conserve energy.
- Close blinds and curtains during the day to block sunlight and reduce cooling costs.
- Set your thermostat a few degrees higher and use ceiling fans to stay comfortable.
- Run dishwashers, laundry, and other major appliances later in the evening or overnight.
- Charge phones, tools, and electric vehicles outside of peak hours.
- Turn off indoor and outdoor lighting and electronics, including televisions, computers, and gaming systems when not in use.
- Keep doors closed as much as possible to prevent cool air from escaping and hot outdoor air from entering your home.
Even small changes can make a big difference when thousands of members participate.
While enjoying the holiday, please remember to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, and check on family members, neighbors, and pets.
