Letter from the President (Excerpt from the June edition of CVEC’s Current Communicator)
Summer brings longer days, family gatherings, and time to enjoy the season together. As we move into these warmer months, CVEC is proud to share the many ways we are supporting our communities, strengthening our system, and preparing for the future.
CVEC continues to stay active in the community and local schools, where our employees visit classrooms to teach electrical safety, explain how the grid works, and introduce students to career opportunities in the energy industry. These programs help spark curiosity in young learners and build strong connections with the next generation across central Virginia.
We invite all members to mark their calendars for our 89th Annual Meeting on September 16. This in-person and virtual gathering is an important opportunity to hear updates, celebrate accomplishments, and elect Directors to serve on the CVEC Board. More details will be shared later this summer.
To strengthen our energy future, CVEC is expanding local solar generation and adding new battery storage resources. These investments help reduce exposure to volatile wholesale market prices, improve reliability during high‑demand periods, and support a cleaner, more resilient system for our members.
As part of our responsibility to recover the actual cost of wholesale electricity, CVEC will implement a Power Cost Adjustment (PCA) increase of about 1.4¢ per kWh beginning June 1, 2026. This adjustment reflects the unexpected rise in wholesale energy costs earlier this year and ensures the Cooperative continues to operate without profit or loss, as required by state law.
We recently celebrated four long‑serving employees who retired after a combined 128 years of dedicated service. Their commitment and expertise have shaped the Cooperative in countless ways. CVEC continues to invest in its workforce through programs such as the Management Internship Program and participation in the Gaff‑n‑Go Lineman’s Rodeo, ensuring our team remains skilled, safe, and prepared for the future.
CVEC has earned a 2026 ASCI Award, recognizing our strong performance in service quality and member satisfaction. This achievement reflects the hard work of our employees and the trust our members place in us every day.
