Letter from the President (Excerpt from the March edition of CVEC’s Current Communicator)
Happy spring! After a rough start to the year with extremely cold temperatures and back-to-back winter storms, we are looking forward to milder weather ahead. Our area experienced the coldest winter in recent years, with prolonged temperatures that were well-below freezing. The cold temperatures led to higher energy consumption and higher bills for our members. We understand how impactful increased energy usage can be on your bill and we want to empower you with tools and tips to help you manage your usage.
The unusually active winter storm season challenged our employees both in the field and in the office, as well as our members. We are proud of how our team responded to the call and thankful for the mutual aid crews and contractors who joined in the restoration efforts. We are most appreciative of our members who took the power interruptions in stride and gave encouragement to our teams working to restore power swiftly and to ensure the safety of all members.
Spring is a prime time to resume vegetation management efforts that play a vital role in providing safe and reliable service for all members. In this issue, we explain how regular maintenance of trees and vegetation near power lines helps prevent outages and improves the overall reliability of our electrical system. We encourage you to learn more about how this program benefits the entire Cooperative.
CVEC is committed to keeping you informed about important developments that will affect your electric service. Due to rising costs from our regional transmission provider, members will experience an increase on their bills beginning this June. Please review the article outlining the factors contributing to this adjustment and what steps we are taking to minimize the impact on your monthly bill. We are committed to working diligently to manage costs as efficiently as possible.
Plans are underway for a data center in Appomattox County that will be served by CVEC. This is an important milestone that directly impacts our Cooperative and brings new opportunities for growth, jobs, and economic development to the community.
